Evaluating Sources

Discussion
Discuss with a partner how you decide a source is credible. Where do you find your sources? Then share your ideas with the rest of the class. Do your classmates use other means or use different criteria to find sources?

Source Evaluation Handout
Look at the checklist provided by your teacher. What kinds of questions should you be asking when you look at a source? Fill out the “Wh-“ question boxes as a class. For example, “Who…is the author?” “Why… should I use this source in my paper?”

Source Evaluation
In pairs, compare the four given sources. Use your checklist and the list of guide questions to find any pros and cons for using each source. Pretend as though you are writing a paper arguing that babies should not be vaccinated.

Discussion
Share with the class anything that stands out about any of the sources. Would you use any of these in your paper? Why or why not?
