Due Wednesday, August 24: Share your dropbox folder ESL114J_FirstnameLastname with me (salvado2@illinois.edu). Within this folder, create a folder called "Unit 1" and complete the Student Information Survey. Also, upload a picture of yourself to the Unit 1 folder.
Due Monday, August 29: Read a different paragraph from the one you presented to your group. Write your own short paragraph (4-8 sentences) about how your culture compares to the culture described. You can find them here. Title the document "02 Writing Across Cultures.doc" and upload it to your Unit 1 folder in Dropbox.
Week 2
Due Friday, September 2: Finish your group thesis statement and outline. Make sure your group members' names are on the document.
Due Wednesday, September 7: Rewrite your diagnostic essay's thesis statement and make an outline. Use your previously written essay as the basis for your outline, but also feel free to change your ideas. Also, rewrite your introduction. Save this new introduction in netid_diagnostic2.docx and upload it to your Unit 1 folder.
Week 3
Due Friday, September 9: Edit at least ONE of your Diagnostic Body Paragraphs. Save this document as netid_diagnostic3.docx and upload it to your Unit 1 Folder.
Due Monday, September 12: Do an edit of your ENTIRE Diagnostic Essay. Please title it netid_diagnosticFULL.docx and upload it to the unit 1 folder.
Week 4
Due Wednesday September 21 (before class): What are some of the conditions that might cause a student to plagiarize? Write a paragraph (7-10 sentences) talking about the causes of plagiarism.
Due Wednesday, September 21 (11:59pm): Do another edit of your ENTIRE Diagnostic Essay. Please title it netid_diagnosticFULL-edit.docx and upload it to the Unit 1 folder. There should be no comments or markup visible. I just want the essay. See the Formatting Example for how your essay should look.
Week 5
Due Friday, September 23 (before class): Finish your paragraph comparing your bedroom in Illinois and your bedroom in China.
Due Monday, September 26 (before class): Finish your outline of the assigned topic from the end of class. In addition, find at least one source that you would use to write this paper if I assigned it to you for real. Over the weekend, please email me 3 potential topics for a cause/effect or comparison essay. Write "ESl114 Topics" in the subject line.
Week 7
Due Monday, October 3: Outline your Comparison or Cause/Effect Essay. Title it Essay2Outline.docx and upload it to your Unit 2 folder.
For Friday, October 7: BEFORE CLASS. Read the instructions for the debate and the story for the debate.
Friday, October 7 by 11:59 p.m. Upload your Final Draft of your Diagnostic Essay to Dropbox. This draft will be graded as a major assignment. Title it as FINALDiagnostic.docx and upload it to your Unit 1 folder. Remember, late assignments will cost you significant points.
Week 8
Monday, October 10 (BEFORE CLASS). Upload your first draft of your Comparison or Cause/Effect Essay to your Unit 2 folder. Title it ESSAY2_Draft.docx. We will be conducting peer reviews in class.

Sunday October 16, 11:59 p.m: Upload an edited draft of your Comparison or Cause Effect Essay to your Unit 2 folder. Title it ESSAY2_Edited. Remember that you are required to use two outside sources, and that these must be cited using APA style. Also, please follow the formatting example.
Thursday, October 20, 11:59 p.m.: Submit at least three (3) possible argumentative/research topics by Thursday night at midnight using this online form.
Week 10
Friday, October 28, 11:59 p.m.: Upload the FINAL DRAFT of your Comparison or Cause/Effect essay to your Unit 2 folder in Dropbox. Title is ESSAY2_Final.docx. Remember that you are required to use two outside sources, and that these must be cited using APA style both in-text and in a reference list. Also, please follow the formatting example.Sunday, October 30, 11:59 p.m.: Please upload an outline (15 points) of your argumentative essay topic with a thesis statement (5 points) to your Unit 3 folder. Title it ESSAY3_Outline.docx. Bonus points (4) if you upload a reference list (you are required to use FOUR sources in this essay) in APA format as well.
